Review: Lancôme Advanced Génifique Hydrogel Melting Mask

Whoever invented sheet masks should get a medal. ( I believe it is a Korean invention!)  It is the easiest way to pamper and treat your skin, it is certainly one of my favourite ways especially on a Sunday night.

So when Lancôme kindly sent me one of the new Advanced Génifique Hydrogel Melting Masks*, I couldn’t wait to try it out. For a start, I prefer a gel mask to a cloth or paper mask, because it seems to fit the face a little better. And if it is infused with the Advanced Génifique Serum I have loved and used on and off over the years, it gets another huge tick from me.

Here is what it says on the Lancôme Australia Website:

The Advanced Génifique Hydrogel Melting Mask responds to skin’s temperature and the gel essence gradually melts, releasing hydration and active ingredients such as bifidus extract into the skin.
Bifidus was selected for its ability to improve of the structure and defense of the skin’s epidermis.
The mask contains the same quantity of bifidus extract as one full 30ml bottle of Advanced Génifique.

Woah. Hang on. As concentrated as a whole bottle of Advanced Genefique serum??  Shut the front door!

That is one hella concentrated face mask!

Lancôme suggests three different ways to use this mask:

  • Apply and use for 10 minutes in the morning for a smooth and fresh base for make up
  • Apply  and use for 20 minutes before a night out for a radiant skin that lasts all night
  • Apply and use for 30 minutes before going to bed to wake up with a rested and glowing skin.

I decided to use it before filming a make up tutorial and I left it on for 35 minutes while I drank tea and watched reality TV. (I also applied a footmask. I am big on multitasking!)

My thoughts:

This is a beautiful sheet mask.  A bit fiddly to apply but once it is on, it is comfortable and doesn’t slide around to much. The serum melts into the skin and the mask is a little drier to the touch after 30 minutes. My skin felt nice, but a little tacky to the touch. However, I was able to apply a foundation after about 10 minutes with no problem at all.  For anyone with a dry or dehydrated skin:  this is a beautiful mask to try and I guarantee, that your skin will just drink it up. The results are instant, my skin looks smooth and bright and lines are plumped.

At AU$29 per mask, AU$110  for a pack of 4 or the , this is not a cheap mask (although a quick search tells me that La Mer is $350 for 6 masks!)

As a special treat before a night out, this mask is amazing and that is how I will use it in conjunction with my Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activator serum. A really nice mask.
