Hello Fashionistas! Happy New Year!
I have been back at work for just over a week and it has been a bit of a struggle getting back of the swing of things. Lucky for me, we are sneaking out to our favourite family holiday spot Tangalooma next week. And lucky for me, the sales are so good at the moment, and felt like adding something cheap and cheerful to my holiday wardrobe.
Cue Kmart.
Not that I need an excuse to go for a Kmart run, but I wanted to see if there was anything in the sale that would be suitable for the hot and humid conditions.
I spotted a cute, cotton, one shoulder dress: Reduced from $20 to $12

Also spotted a red gingham dress. Reduced from $15 to $8.
Band Tee! $10. I love David Bowie, and it was a tough choice between Ziggy and George Michael. Also available ACDC
Super Cute Boater hat $9. A little big, (and only one size available), but nothing a bit of fabric lining won’t fix!
Dresses, in particular shift dresses don’t look that great on me, especially when they are a cotton and straight up and down. It makes me look, well, pregnant, because I am a different size on the top than on the bottom.
I immediately knew I was going to turn the blue striped one shoulder dress in a top! Much more my thing. That was easy. Cut and hem. I removed the small strap and voila!

When I saw the Gingham dress at Kmart, I actually thought it was a skirt. I nearly jumped up in the air because I have had my eye on this sold out red gingham skirt from Zara FOREVER. And I was wondering if I could tweak this dress to make it sort of look like the Zara skirt. Kind of.

I tucked in the sleeves. I measured what would have been the neckline and took it in a little and added some elastic to fit my waist measurements. I tacked the front of the dress and pulled up the threads to gather the hem up.

Cute. But not enough. I went back and bought another dress for $8, and cut it up in strips to make the ruffles. I let down the gather, added the ruffles and it worked!

Looks amazing with the band shirt!
Let’s change it up.

Ok. I am ready for our holidays!
