I do not believe there is a more versatile clothing item than a shirt dress.
You may know my philosophy/justification for purchasing a new clothing item: if I can’t think of at least 3 outfits to put together with this item, I will not buy it.
Today, I show you 3 different ways to wear the Skylar Longline Button Through Top * kindly gifted by Table Eight.
This is a lovely piece, it drapes well, hardly creases and is finished with some great details:
Sleeves can be rolled up and tabbed and it has a belt as well. Very versatile!
So my bestie slash photographer extraordinaire, and I went on a little field trip to one of our local Port Hacking Bays, where there is a great pavilion for the backdrop. It was one of the coldest, windiest days of the year, but anything in the name of fashion!
Outfit one
I like this look for lunch, or for work. I wear the dress as a coat. Perfect as a transeasonal piece, worn here over Table Eight Willa Wide leg Stripe Belted Pants.*
Outfit two
Sexy and edgy enough to wear on a night out. I take advantage of the current trend of wearing slip dresses as outer wear and layered the Table Eight Skylar top over a very old Intimo Slip dress (which is actually a maternity slip! the bra unhooks to breastfeed. shh don’t tell anyone) and I don’t think is still available. Find a similar one HERE
I was inspired by Andandreastyle.com to layer the shirtdress and throw on a faux fur poncho over one shoulder. (she definitely is the layer queen, go check her out. I love her style)
Outfit Three
Tuck the front of the Skylar into your skinny jeans and let the back drape down. Unroll the sleeves, Add a skinny scarf and some boots, and you have a casual edgy look. These are Rockmans Jeggings,* comfiest jeans you will ever wear!
I can think of a TON of other ways to wear this shirt/dress: wear it with pleather leggings, a heel and a cropped denim jacket for a cute going out look. Wear it loose with a leather jacket and some ankle boots for another look, it just goes on and on.
How do you like to style your shirtdress?
Here are some other posts where I have styled one piece three times:
Sequin pants , Pleather Skater skirt , Sleeveless jacket, $15 KMart Jacket
*please note, these are gifts for reviewing purposes. This is not a sponsored post, and my styling ideas, opinions and views are all my own.
Til Next time,
andandrea style is my favourite online stylist, I also heart your style Barbe. You totally nailed it with the shirt dress and I love all the looks. I love a shirtdress but often find that in plus size they are so boxy and daggy, when I do find a good one I grab it.
Oh and the wind, here in Adelaide every shot I’ve taken for the last 4 weeks has been in crazy wind conditions. Makes it tough for daily pics?

Thanks so much Jenni! I am totally starstruck by Andrea Tonkin! And thank you so much for saying such nice things. I did find i had to take the belt off the loops, they are never in the right place for a short person.
My god the wind!!!
And the bright light! Couldn’t stop squinting, so most of them without sunnies had to go.
Thanks again, you know you are my hero x

Looking fabulous, Barbe! I love a shirt dress as long as the buttons don’t gape. This looks like a super versatile piece and who doesn’t love that!!
