Eyebrow Tutorial – Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

One of the most requested tutorials is one for eye brows, so how better to show you how to do it than do it in a video?I am fussy about doing my own, and it is one thing that is always part of my daily beauty routine. See, mine never grew back properly after losing them twice with 2 rounds of chemo therapy. Throw in Menopause and I am left with only a few strands.

I was introduced about 12months ago to Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade and I have to admit, I had a little bit of trouble getting used to the product. The trick is to use the tiniest little bit on the brush and layer rather than trying to do it in one hit. I love it now. It is smudge and waterproof and I can make my eyebrows look natural or bold, whatever I feel like.

The brush is important too. I am up to my second Anastasia Beverly Hills double sided brush. The first one’s spooley (the mascara type brush) fell out after 8 months, and the hairs on the fine slanted edge have separated a little. I now use it to apply the concealer around the brow to tidy the edges. I have tried many different brushes since this first one, but nothing compares to the stiffness and fine edge of the Anastasia Beverly Hills one.

You will see that I use the slanted edge in a couple of different ways:

  • the sharp edge can create fine brush strokes to recreate hair.
  • using the slanted edge to create outline and then pushing it up and down to fill in the brow
  • using softer pressure on the inner corners of the brows and that way having a more gradient look to the brow, soft colour going in to stronger on the tail.

The look is  a preference, I like defined brows. I would even take them stronger for a night out. Enjoy the video – there are no filters, no covering up and just a warning extreme close ups coming up!  Oh and if swearing offends you, turn the sound down. If it doesn’t bother you, enjoy this great tune by Flume. Step by step instructions below the video.

Step by step instructions:

  • Apply eyebrows AFTER foundation
  • Brush brows down with the spooled end
  • Take a small amount of Dipbrow on the brush and wipe on the back of the hand to ensure the brush is evenly covered with no blobs. I use the back of the hand as a palette and dip my brush in there to add a little more. What I have used here is enough for one eyebrow
  • Use the slanted edge and start from about 1/4 way in and outline the eyebrow. I like to define the lower line more than the upper line.
  • To fill in place the slanted edge on the lower outline and push up to fill in the brow.
  • Do the same from the upper outline: place slant on outline and drag down
  • Only when there is hardly anything left on the brush I start to fill in the start of the brow with very little pressure. I like to leave the inner corners soft so it doesn’t appear to be too “boxy”
  • Brush with spooley to even out the pomade.
  • When the brows are filled in, I like to define the lower line a little more and darken the tails. Check your work and fill in any gaps.
  • Brush over with spooley, concentrating on the inner corner of the brow to soften the edges.
  • With a clean brush I use my concealer and clean up the edges, blending after with a soft fluffy brush.

That’s it!

There are some other brands that are excellent that do a great job. Ardell Brow Pomade is another FANTASTIC product, which I have tried out. Unfortunately the colour wasn’t right for me (I had the medium brown where I probably should have had the Dark Brown) but the texture and staying power is just as good as the ABH. The price is very attractive, AND it comes with its own brush! Buy it HERE

The other one I have heard great reports about, but haven’t tried myself is the CHI CHI Brow Pomade. Buy it HERE

Instead of my concealer I sometimes use the ^Pro Pencil by Anastasia Beverly Hills, it makes cleaning up those edges a breeze! Buy it

This is just one method of doing eyebrows, of course there are other products. There are pencils, powders, waxes and felt tips. I think I have them all, and use them on different occasions. I have done a very early review on the Ardell Brow Defining Kit  (still love this!) and also the Benefit Gimme Brow  (still a favourite!)

What is your favourite product/method for your eyebrows?

    Thank you Barbe Xx

    1. You are so very welcome! I like doing the tutorials, once I get over the shock of seeing myself in close up! It is what it is, I am not a spring chicken and let’s face it, we have earned every single line on our face! Thanks for your support Lisa x

    Your amazing Barbe X

  3. Can’t tell you how helpful this tute is Barbe – I have brows very similar to yours. Mine are virtually non-existent, almost white blonde and unless I draw them on every morning, I look like an alien lol! Have tried every product under the sun, but always go back to a pencil. My foray into powders was a disaster, but I can see now that the problem was my technique! You’ve given me hope, and the confidence to give this type of product another shot – thanks doll ♥♥♥

    1. So glad you find it helpful Kat! Do try the powders again, using the technique I use. It seems to work with powders as well. xoxox Let me know how you go on x

  4. I love this tutorial Barbe – thank you so much. I am lucky to have a reasonable amount of hair but it is going grey! I have no grey hairs anywhere except my brows so I am very pleased to be able to tint them and to ‘draw’ them on.

  5. Loved reading your personal story. Thanks for the tutorial 🙂

  6. Wow! Thank you for posting. They look so natural too.
You make it look so easy, I’d better get practising!x

After chemo therapy and radiation for breast cancer I have been left with no eyebrows at all. I use brow pencil every morning to draw my eyebrows until a friend told me about you. I watched your video and am definitely going to buy your products. Thanks

    1. Thank you so much for commenting. I am glad that you have found it helpful. Your eyebrows will come back slowly, trust me. Not fast enough, but they will. Check out the stencils that are available too Maria, it makes it so easy to place the eyebrow. Also, if it helps, Final Touch Brows, does some amazing stick on brows for people with none at all. http://finaltouchbrows.com/pages/false-eyebrows

Good luck and hope you are feeling your old self soon xoxoxoxo
